Abstract:The ALT (Articulated Loading Tower)-tanker system is a kind of floating production, storage, and offloading system designed for water depth of 70-500 m, which belongs to compliant single point mooring system. There is little information on the dynamic characteristic of coupled ALT and tanker systems, which is very important for the safety of the ALT and the mooring cable. A discussion covers the piecewise nonlinear interaction between ALT and tanker; influence of cable stiffness on the coupled motion of ALT-tanker and dynamic cable tension; variables influencing the amplitude and style of the motion of ALT-tanker systems; dynamic tension in the line of the system; sub-harmonic resonance and low frequency drift motion of ALT-tanker systems; and the period-doubling bifurcation or low frequency drift motion of ALT-tanker systems. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 2009 International Offshore and Polar Engineering Conference (Osaka, Japan 6/21-26/2009).
