Abstract: In this paper, a numerical simulation of the collision process between a supply ship and a column stabilized semi-submersible platform working in a water depth of 3,000 meters is conducted. A simplified computation model is employed for the non-collision zone of the semi-submersible platform in this numerical simulation. Cowper-Symonds model and LS-DYNA explicit non-linear dynamic analysis software are used. The collision force, energy absorption, structural damage and deformation modes are obtained through the typical simulation of collision process. Afterwards, the influence of different initial speeds and the initial collision directions of supply ship are also studied. Suggestions for anti-collision measures are given based on the analysis of the results in the end. ? 2010 by The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
