Abstract:Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is considered as a promising option for the mitigation of global climate change, however, due to the early stage of its development, there are many risks and uncertainties which need to be carefully identified. This paper assesses the risks of CCS with respect to its four elements of capture, transport, injection and storage. Due to the long-term storage of CO2, an important factor of timeframes for CCS risk assessment is also discussed. After that, it analyses the risks in health and environment associated with the stored CO2 leakage. Suggestions for further studies on CCS risk analysis are provided at the end of this paper.
