Abstract:A reliable method was put forward to estimate rigidity center of standing buildings from vibration recordings. It was based on the characteristic of the center that the translational motion at that position is minimally cohered to the torsional motion during vibration. Defining the coherence area as integration of coherence function of torsional motion and translational motion in frequency field and calculating of the area at any positions in floor slabs, the rigidity center was determined at the position where coherence area reaches minimum. An example was presented in this paper and the validity of this method was proved.
