Abstract:Now, more and more low-grade limestone and construction waste are utilized as alternative raw materials in cement clinker production. However, the high content of MgO in these alternative raw materials probably affect the compatibility between cement and water reducing agent. This paper attempts to reveal the effect of the MgO content in clinker on compatibility between cement and polycarboxylate superplasticizer (3301MY and 3301R, with different side chain density). The results indicates: MgO content has little influence on the compatibility between 3301MY and cement; with MgO content rising, loss rate of fluidity as time (FL) of cement paste with 3301MY increases, and the increasing amplitude presents more evident when the cement paste is with less superplasticizer content. However, MgO content significantly influences the compatibility between 3301R and cement; as MgO content rises, saturation dosage point of 3301R decreases, disperse ability increases, but flow ability retention stays unchanged. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
