Nonlinear dynamical characters analysis of ship rolling based on Hilbert-Huang Transform

Abstract:The Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) was exploringly used to investigate the nonlinear dynamic characters of the ship rolling movement. The rolling angles, which were simulated from the established model, were looked as the analytic signals, and then some of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) were obtained by means of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) on the simulated signals. Finally, the time-frequency spectrums were achieved. The dynamic characters about time responses, phase maps and time-frequency spectrums of ship rolling under typical wave parameters were obtained. According to the graphs of Hilbert spectrum, the nonlinear characters of ship rolling were analyzed. The feasibility and efficiency of the new method were demonstrated by the numerical results of signals, which bring a new and powerful way to analyze the nonlinear dynamical characters of ship rolling. ? 2013.
