Abstract:For the purpose of considering the second-order effect in a rational way for the design of reinforced concrete frame structures, a geometrical non-linear analysis method was proposed based on the effective stiffness of the elements of the structure. The material nonlinearity of the structure was considered by the effective stiffness (reduced stiffness) in current design standards. The geometric nonlinearity of the element of the structure was achieved by using the stiffness coefficient which is a function of the ratio of axial force and flexural rigidity of the column. The proposed method can be implemented by modifying the stiffness matrix of element of existing finite element program. Meanwhile, a simplified approach for qualification of the axial forces of elements for the first iteration was suggested. In comparison with the traditional analysis method, both the P- effect and P- effect are taken into account simultaneously in the proposed method. It does not have to decide whether the frame is braced or non-braced, and the evaluation of the effective length of the column is not required. The analysis results indicate that more accurate results can be achieved by only two iterations. If the estimated axial force by the suggested simplified method is used, no iteration process is needed and good result can be obtained. ?, 2014, Science Press. All right reserved.
