Abstract:Addition of a small amount of Gd to the Fe-Co-B based glassy alloy in (Fe0.5Co0.5)(71-x)GdxNb4B25 (x = 2.5 - 4.5) increased the stabilization of supercooled liquid and glass-forming ability (GFA). The largest supercooled liquid region of 102K was obtained for the x = 3.5 alloy. The best GFA with a diameter of over 5 mm was achieved for the x = 3.5 alloy. The (Fe0.5Co0.5)(67.5)Gd3.5Nb4B25 glassy alloy exhibited good soft magnetic properties, i.e., rather high saturation magnetization of 0.86T, low coercive force of 4.2A/m, and low saturated magnetostriction of 6 x 10(-6).
