An Empirical Study of Subject Evaluation in China's High-level Universities

Abstract:With the development of higher education, more and more researchers have paid more attention to the university rankings. So we extend the pioneering work by proposing a simple and seemingly robust approach for comparing the scientific productivity and visibility of universities. Our main fmdings are that i) we take Subject Construction, Student Training, Teacher Team, Scientific Research and International Communication into full consideration, ii) an empirical test has been done to check out the index system by utilizing the data obtained by the research group, iii) as a complement to the existing index system, this new impact index provides an interesting way to compare the scientific production of universities.
