Abstract:Application of struvite precipitation in treating wastewater is influenced by many factors, especially heavy metal impurities which play an important role in the process of crystallization. Considering this problem, we investigated pollutants removal efficiency of PO4 3- and NH4 + in pharmaceutical wastewater containing Mn2+ and Cu2+ impurities. XRD, XRF, SEM techniques were used to analyze the struvite product seperated from the streams. The results indicated that PO4 3- removal efficiency of 88% and 85% were obtained in the presence of Mn2+ and Cu2+ impurities, respectively (pH=9.5). Crystal seed dosing benefits recovering struvite with special structure, whereas Cu2+ showed a distinct impact of interference on struvite crystallization compared with Mn2+.
