Abstract:China, with abundant UNESCO World Heritage Sites, has the prospect of receiving the world's largest inbound tourists by 2020. Websites are currently one of the most effective means to supply and retrieve information. Hence, constructing and improving English websites of World Heritage Sites in China is of critical importance. This paper attempts to give some advice on bettering English website of China's Jiuzhai Valley, thus providing implications to other websites via comparative analyses of English website of Yellowstone National Park in the US and that of Jiuzhai Valley. The study is developed in terms of layout of the homepage, stylistic characteristics of language, interaction with the website visitors and visual aids. The findings seem to lead to the following suggestions for China's English tourism websites: 1) specifying and organizing information for easy access; 2) adopting plain language rather than technical terms (if not necessary); 3) free transformation between different text types; 4) raising awareness of target audiences. This study needs further proof by incorporating more English websites of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. ?2010 IEEE.
