The applicability of computing methods for analysis of press-fit assembly in elasto-plastic field

Abstract:It is important to choose an appropriate computing method to analyze stress of press fit in elasto-plastic field. If the selected computing method calculates only in elastic field, it is not in accord with practice when plastic deformation occurs. In this work, the analytical method was extended to two different materials, and stress analyses of press fits for different interference values were implemented by using analytical method and Finite Element Method (FEM). It was verified that results obtained from FEM were more consistent with practice than those obtained from the analytical method in elasto-plastic field. Diameter/interference ratio of press-fit assembly was calculated to estimate occurrence of the plastic deformation. The results show that the analytical method is applicable for simplified press fits of thick-walled cylinders in elastic field, and the ratio decides applicability of the analytical method. For the model that we studied, The plastic deformation began to appear on contact surface when the diameter/interference ratio was smaller than 231. Copyright ? 2014 Binary Information Press.
