Abstract: A novel analytical solution, which included the effects of temperature distribution and oxygen concentration distribution on coal self-heating system, was presented. It was derived by combining the travelling wave reduced form method and the intermediate variable method. Coal self-heating results were consistent between theory and experiments. Using the analytical solution, the effects of kinetic parameters on coal self-heating were explicitly discussed. For Killoch6015 coal, an increase of pre-exponential and a decrease of other parameters (i.e., activation energy and inlet velocity) was observed at a reference temperature of 350K, and the temperature and oxygen consumption within the coal self-heating system raised in varying degrees. However, an increase in porosity had almost no influence on the coal self-heating process, only exhibiting a weak increase in oxygen concentration and temperature within the system. Finally, the evolution processes of the temperature and oxygen concentration distributions were discussed.
