Abstract:To make the recovery of methane from hydrates commercially viable, many uncertainties in hydrate dissociation process in porous media must be solved. In this study, the permeability variation with the pore-scale hydrate distributions was experimentally determined, and through the comparison of the experimental results with permeability correlations, the hydrate forming in the center of pore space was confirmed. To evaluate the effect of permeability reduction, absolute permeability and relative permeability on MH dissociation and gas production behavior, the Masuda permeability model was incorporated with a depressurization mathematical model, and some simulation runs was carried out. Based on the results of the numerical simulation, the effect of permeability variation on gas production from hydrate was analyzed.
