Abstract: Cellulosic poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) were prepared via nucleophilic substitution of chlorinated cellulose by 1-methyl-imidazole and their structure and thermal properties have been fully characterized; the cellulosic PILs were found to be green, efficient and recyclable catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides under solvent-free conditions.
