Abstract:The present investigation focuses on the microstructure in the heat affected zone(HAZ) generated in plasma transferred arc welding. The effect of solution treatment, welding current and coating alloys on the microstructure in the HAZ was analyzed, some side-plates or needle-type 2 and chromium nitrides appeared in the as-welded HAZ. Regarding the solution treated HAZ, austenites grew greatly and perpendicularly to the fusion line. Additionally, nitride precipitates observed in the as-welded HAZ was resolved in the solution treated one while continuous point-like Cr23C 6 particles and Cr-rich precipitates were generated near the boundaries and on the / boundaries. GBA and IGA, two types of the austenites, were formed in the HAZ produced by lower current while the only IGA appeared when welding with higher current. When the DSS was deposited with Ni-based alloy, the as-welded HAZ was decorated with a narrow layer of austenites because of the strong austenite stabilizer Ni.
