Abstract:Using firm-level data involved in Chinese antidumping protection cases from 1999 to2007, this paper estimates the effect of antidumping protection on the performance of domestic heterogeneous firms by constructing a micro econometric model. Two key results emerge. Firstly, antidumping protection filings have little influence on the performance of Chinese related firms in the first year. Secondly, allowing for firm heterogeneity, the authors find that affirmative dumping decision hurts the performance of Chinese firms, while negative dumping decision improves. These results show that trade policy protects our firms from dumping and should emphasize on enhancing the competitive performance of firms.
