Abstract:The corrosion fatigue life of the impeller for remanufacturing can be predicted by using the Monte Carlo ( M-C) method and the Probabilistic Fracture Mechanics ( PFM) with consideration of the uncertainty and the randomness of the pa-rameters. Results indicate that the presence of the corrosion pit greatly reduces the fatigue crack propagation life. The corro-sion fatigue life with the M-C method under certain reliability and confidence level is more reliable for the design of the impel-ler with comparison to the traditional fracture mechanics method. The corrosion fatigue life can be decreased with the increase of the stress amplitude, the increase of the size of the corrosion pit and the increase of ratio of pitting depth and width. The corrosion fatigue life can be decreased with the decrease of distance from the welding line.
