Abstract:The paper is to reveal the effects of the knowledge management (KM) process motivated by reward systems on new product development (NPD) performance. Based on key concepts in NPD, KM, and reward systems, the study first proposed a theoretical framework and then conducted a quantitative analysis by structural equation modeling (SEM), using data from a sample of 120 innovative firms in 3 Chinese cities. The study found most of the hypotheses supported. Knowledge innovation had a positive impact on NPD performance. In KM system, the acquisition of knowledge had a strong positive association with knowledge integration. Moreover, higher level of organizational reward system could bring higher level of knowledge acquisition and innovation. ? 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
