Abstract:In this article, the idiographic critical values of welding velocity and inclination angle in neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser-melt active gas (MAG) hybrid welding on downhill welding Q235B mild steel in comparison with MAG welding are investigated. Results show that enhancing heat input augments the critical welding velocity and critical inclination angle between the welding plate and the horizontal plane in downhill MAG welding and laser-MAG hybrid welding. Besides, compared with MAG welding, the critical welding velocity and inclination angle in laser-MAG hybrid welding are greater because of the addition of YAG laser. Furthermore, in the MAG welding and hybrid welding, the variational trends of inclination angle and welding velocity are consistent, because of the molten metal filling welding seam to form eligible welding joint and the gravity of droplet changing with appropriate welding parameters.
