Abstract: Quadrilateral mesh in general has better quality and converges faster than the triangular one in the Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. In this paper we focus on remeshing complex triangluar meshes with boundaries and propose a method for converting a given FEM mesh model into a quad dominant one which is based on one-step inverse forming method. The proposed algorithm preserves the features, such as holes, curve constraints, in the original models. In particular, an offsetting technique is employed to handle the elements in the vicinity of features and boundaries, the configuration of which the accuracy of most simulation is much more sensitive to. The results indicate the effectiveness and quality of the proposed approach. ? 2013 by Binary Information Press.
