Abstract:In order to study energy consumption characteristics of urban housing, this study establishes a method to analyze the urban housing energy consumption structure taking Shanghai as a case, which is a metropolis in the south of China. The used data is the statistics of energy consumption from 1980 to 2005 in Shanghai. The results indicate that Shanghai's residential energy consumption rises by 3.28 times from 15.73PJ in 1980 to 67.44PJ in 2005; the average energy consumption by household increases from 9.57GJ in 1980 to 15.01GJ in 2005, raising 56 percent. The changing features of the energy composition are the rapid decreasing of coal and the quick increasing of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), city gas, and electricity. The rapid penetration of space cooling and appliances are the accelerator of energy demand increasing.
