Abstract: The time-varying parameters of the Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model and stress release method are used to study the process of modulus softening and strength reduction that result from hydrate dissociation. The finite element numerical method related to hydrate dissociation is developed. The effects of the hydrate dissociation on submarine slope stability and deformation are investigated by the developed calculation program. The results show that the proposed calculation method can well simulate hydrate dissociation process. The iteration steps needed in convergence could be used to determine whether the slope reaches limit equilibrium. The horizontal displacement and vertical settlement are caused mainly by strength loss and modulus softening.
