Abstract: Three methods are employed to calculate the damping of the container ship C11: derivation of damping coefficients from ship model test; calculation by empirical formula; and CFD based numerical simulation. These damping values are substituted into the free damping equation of ship’s roll; the results between numerical simulation and model test are compared.
