Abstract:The explicit time integration dynamic FEM was combined with visco-spring dynamic artificial boundaries to solve the nonlinear dynamic responses of concrete gravity dam and rock foundation system. The dynamic contact model was utilized to simulate the effect of longitudinal joints in dams, and the response of dynamic loads was calculated by dynamic method. As a result the combined action of dynamic and static loads was calculated reasonably and easily. The proposed method was applied to analyze the influence of longitudinal joints on static and dynamic characteristics in a concrete gravity dam. The result demonstrates that the existence of longitudinal joints is a disadvantageous factor affecting the aseismic safety of the dam.
