Abstract:Sustainable urban form becomes one of hottest theoretical issues in western planning study which leads to rediscovering the value of physical planning. As a complicated and disputed concept, sustainable urban form not only includes compactness, sustainable transport, density, mixed land use, diversity, passive solar design, and greening as key design factors; but also covers compact city, ecological city and polycentric city as basic practice models. So far, there exist difficult problems including validity, acceptability and feasibility of sustainable urban form, which should be primary research directions in future.
