Abstract:An octadecylamine (ODA) assisted hydrothermal method in aqueous solution was proposed to fabricate hematite with several different morphologies from polyhedron to hollow microspheres and dendritic structure. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) was used to identify the involved morphology evolution in the current reaction system. The currently obtained morphologies can be attributed to two important factors: the bonding and corrosion ability of ODA molecules. The aggregation regime of hematite was found to be depended on various kinetic factors such as the concentration of reactants. Due to the facile synthesis and controllable morphology of the current method, we are allowed to fabricate hematite as a prototype of the ideal functional materials such as the use of iron oxides in energy storage devices.
