Abstract: In this paper, a new matching model is integrated into standard techniques of three-dimensional (3D) particle image velocimetry (PIV) based on the binocular vision. A 3D space is first segmented and aligned to 2D planes. Then the 2D PIV method or the particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) method is applied to match particles within different interrogation windows. Using the proposed algorithm, problems on spatial stereo matching and information representation can be solved. At last, the algorithm is applied to the real and synthetic particle images, and the results are analyzed. These experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach is effective and practical.
