Long term absorbed energy maximization model of large scale reservoir systems by multiple power grids

Abstract:An absorbed energy maximization model of large scale reservoir systems consisted of multi river basins by multiple power grids is proposed in this paper. Both the energy absorbing capability constraints and restrictions of energy transmitted in/out of power grids are considered in the objective function. A hybrid algorithm is used to solve this optimal problem in which Progressive Optimality Algorithm (POA), Discrete Differential Dynamic Programming (DDDP) and successive approximation methods are combined. Case studies of a 92 plants system in the China Southern Power Grid show that the model is effective, and the demands of energy compensation among power grids is exactly modeled. Numerical results show that the transmission and energy absorbing capacities have an obvious impact on optimal results and the alteration of transmission capability constraints can not be ignored in real world operation. ? 2011 ASCE.
