Abstract:This paper introduces a novel control method for mitigating the structural nonlinear vibration. The Sliding Mode Control (SMC) is combined with the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) observer. In detail, the UKF is used for identifying the uncertain parameters and estimating the structural states. Based on the estimated information, the SMC is used to determine the control law by these states and parameters. The effectiveness of the SMC-UKF is verified through the numerical simulation. The numerical model is a nonlinear 3-story frame structure containing uncertain parameters which will be updated in real time by UKF. Accordingly, the control effect of the SMC-UKF is compared with the response of the structure without control. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London, UK.
