Abstract:In Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), structural model updating plays an important role in maintaining integrity and safety of structures. This paper presents a model updating method using the measured global mode and local primary frequency. First the global test is experimented to obtain the low order modes which reflect the global information of the structure. Then the mass is added on the member of structure to increase the local dynamic characteristic and to make the member have local primary frequency. When a local excitation is applied on a member, if the caused vibration mainly consists of only one single modal which represents most of the local distortion, then the corresponding frequency is defined as the local primary frequency. Local primary frequency reflects more local information of the member and hence is more sensitivity to the local damage. Therefore, both low mode and local primary frequencies are combined and used for model updating. The effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method is verified by the experiment. ? 2013 Taylor & Francis Group.
