Abstract:In current wireless cellular networks, generally a mobile station is able to acquire its position through diverse positioning techniques. Incorporating position and communication will improve the wireless system performance. In this paper, we propose position based power control and mode handover methods for hybrid wireless cellular and D2D (Device-to-Device) communications. Each mobile station passes its location on to the base station periodically via signalling messages or data packets. Base stations predict the transmit power for next communication cycle based on the track of mobile stations. According to current transmit power and distance variation between transmitter and receiver, a communication pair is able to determine whether to perform mode handover: from cellular mode to D2D mode or vice versa. With the proposed methods, the system performance is improved in terms of outage rate and energy efficiency. Simulations are conducted to verify the proposed methods.
