Abstract:A new adaptive algorithm is presented for solving the phase change heat transfer problems by integrating the advantages of quadtree SBFEM and smoothed effective heat capacity method. A new criterion of the refinement is addressed via an interval intersection, and a new nonerror estimation based criteria is presented to terminate the refinement. Only a local mesh refinement is required around the interface region, and the computational expense can be effectively reduced in comparison with uniform refinement in the whole domain. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and the potential for solving applied problems by simulating a finned enhanced latent heat storage system.
