Abstract:The physical process of vacuum arc is very complex, it is hardly to diagnostic the plasma parameters only by experiments. In this paper, a high-speed camera was used and a vacuum arc model, based on the Magnet HydrodynamicMHD and solved by CFD software, was established to do researches on the vacuum arc status experimentally and numerically. The results show that: (1) The arc appearance and diameter vary with the arcing time and the half-sine arc current. (2) In contrast with the plasma density, the Mach number of plasma decreases from the cathode to the anode, and the electron density as well as plasma density decrease along the radial direction. (3) The arc voltage increases with the arc current and gap length and keeps in relative low value. The accordance of experimental with simulated results proved that such a method is feasible and effective. ? 2012 Binary Information Press.
