Abstract: A cerium-based metal-organic tetrahedron including triphenylamine was applied to recognize the 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (5-HIAA), a kind of tumor marker and playing crucial roles in the process of the disease diagnosis and clinical treatment. The tetrahedron could encapsulate 5-HIAA through weak interaction and space stereoselectivity, and it displayed good fluorescence enhancement towards 5-HIAA over other relevant species in urine. The tetrahedral sensor is capable of detecting 5-HIAA with good selectivity and high sensitivity in real urine. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
