Abstract:Layered nanostructured TiO2 was synthesized by hydrothermal method operated at 125 degrees C in the presence of TMAH. TMAH acted as a capping agent to Ti precursor and intercalated into the layered nanostructured TiO2. Phase transition from layered nanostructure to anatase phase occurred over the hydrothermal reaction time. DLS size analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and luminescence spectroscopy have been used to characterize the resulting nanostructured TiO2. The intercalation and decomposition process of TMAH in TiO2 was studied. A proposed growth mechanism is given to demonstrate the formation of layered nanostructures. Layered nanostructured TiO2 showed different optical properties from the anatase type TiO2 nanoparticles. (C) 2014 The Society of Powder Technology Japan. Published by Elsevier B.
