Abstract:The packed-bed plasma reactor was energized by bipolar pulse power in
this paper. In order to optimize the structural and electrical
parameters of the packed bed plasma reactor, we investigated the effects
of the shape of discharge electrode, diameter of discharge electrode,
inner diameter of the outer quartz tube, diameter of the packing
materials(glass beads), pulse-forming capacitance and pulse repetitive
frequency on the discharge power. It was found that the bolt electrode
showed better discharging characteristics than rod electrode. Larger
discharge electrode diameter, smaller inner diameter of both the outer
quartz tube and packed glass beads could contribute to the increase of
injected energy to the plasma reactor. With the same applied voltage,
when the pulse forming capacitance increased from 0.5 to 1.5 nF, both
injected power and peak current increased dramatically. However, when
the forming capacitance was over 1.5 nF, the injected power and peak
current had little variation. Therefore, the optimal pulse forming
capacitance was 1.5 nF in this experiment, which was 20 times of the
statistic capacitance (75 pF) of the packed-bed plasma reactor.
