Abstract:ANSYS/LS-DYNA was used to set up models of both the free pipe and the cantilever one which were impacted by flat-nosed missiles. The plastic kinematic hypothesis was adopted and the maximum strain criterion was used to determine the failure. Deformation and energy distribution in both cases were analyzed. Influences of the impact velocity v, the diameter ratio of missiles to pipes and the thickness-diameter ratio D0/�� on the deformations of the pipe were considered. The results indicated that the impact velocity v and the thickness-diameter ratio D0/�� had great effects on the deformation, whereas the diameter ratio of missile to pipe had little.
