Experimental study on the wave loading of a twin-plates breakwater

摘要:A novel type of permeable breakwater, the so-called Twin-plate Breakwater (TPB), was studied experimentally in the State key laboratory of coastal and offshore engineering, China. The two plates were configured in two different horizontal planes as parallel, with the upper one at the steal water level. This study is concentrated on the distribution of dynamic wave pressures and wave loads on the TPB, under the conditions of regular waves (with the range of relative plate width B/L=0.28~1.43 and relative wave height H/d=0.1~0.4) and random waves (with the range of relative plate width B/L=0.2~0.66 and relative wave height Hs/d=0.1~0.35). Parameters including relative plate width, relative wave height, and wave steepness were discussed. The laboratory results demonstrate that the maximum dynamic wave pressure and wave force on TPB are power functions of relative plate width, relative wave height and wave steepness, and furthermore, the relative plate width has a dominant effect. Moreover, the mechanism of wave dissipation of TPB is investigated by analyzing the form of water motion and transition process of energy around the plates.
