Abstract: The heat generation and temperature field during the initial stage of rotary friction welding (RFW) is analytically described in this study. An analytical heat generation model is proposed based on the slide stick friction transition criterion, and then the mathematical expression of temperature field is obtained accordingly. The accuracy of the models is verified by the maximum temperature at friction interface, and the error between experimental and calculated results at the transition moment is around 6%.
