Abstract:It would be possible to produce nanostructured systems via dynamic consolidation due to the short duration. In the study, the bulk W-25%Cu nanocomposites were fabricated by the technique of dynamic consolidation. The nanostructured W-Cu powder was prepared by hydrogen-reduction of ball-milled W and CuO. The results indicated that the consolidated composites had a final density of 97.6% T.D. and the W crystalline sizes were measured as 27 nm. The W-Cu composites showed the homogeneous microstructure and were composed entirely of W and Cu. The fracture surface was analyzed by SEM and showed intergranular fracture. The hardness was measured. It is proved that it is feasible to fabricate nanostructured W-Cu composites by dynamic consolidation. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
