Abstract:By monitoring the exhaust of microbial fermentation in real time, the fermentation reaction progress and the product quality can be effectively predicted. To preserve the airtight and anaerobic environment for protecting the fermentation process, this paper proposes a design method for establishing an on-line monitoring system. To cope with the notable measurement error of gas concentration arising from electromagnetic disturbances, sensor aging, and environmental change to the multi-component gas analyzer, a correction method is used based on the least-squares recursive model. By performing calibration and correction tests with the standard gas tank, a polynomial calibration model for fitting and the optimal correction formula are constructed. The application to the acetone-butanol fermentation process demonstrates that the proposed methods can be effectively used for real-time monitoring of the fermentation exhaust, while the measurement error of the gas analyzer can be reduced to improve the measurement accuracy.
