摘要:The diffusion coefficient of small molecules in E. coli suspensions was measured. The effects of suspension temperature, concentration and bacterial activity on the diffusive mass transfer of Rhodamine B were investigated. The experimental results show that the effective diffusion coefficient of Rhodamine B in suspension is one order of magnitude larger than that in phosphatebuffered saline (PBS) solution, and the effective diffusion coefficient increases with the increase of suspension temperature and bacterial concentration. The self-propelling behavior of bacteria is an important factor to enhance the diffusive mass transfer of small molecules in suspensions. The active diffusion coefficient of Rhodamine B increases with increasing bacterial suspension concentration and temperature. A step increase in the active diffusion coefficient with the change of suspension concentration occurs due to the collective motion of bacteria. The relationship between mean square displacement and diffusion time shows that the diffusion of Rhodamine B is standard Fick diffusion in a short period of time, and it changes to super-diffusion after a period of time. The transformation time is delayed with increasing temperature of diffusion system and advanced with increasing E. coli concentration. © 2021, Science Press. All right reserved.
