Abstract:Flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) is a common phenomenon of corrosion that relate to flow, and only for carbon steel and low alloy steel. But, for the presence of passive film on stainless steel lead to a very low corrosion rate, reports about the effects of flow were rare to be found. In this paper, the type 304 austenitic stainless steel (304 SS) in different passive state was selected and used as experimental material. The results showed that flow indeed had accelerated effects on the corrosion of 304 SS. HNO3-passivated samples were harder to attack by both flowing and static aqueous solution than air-passivated samples. But in some solutions, there is no obvious difference of the weight-loss for the samples after being passivated in air was observed.
