He received his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from The University of Texas at Austin in 2019, under the supervision of Professor Stelios Kyriakides (NAE member). After graduation, he worked as a Post-doc scholar in Professor Yannis Korkolis’s group at Ohio State University. Dr. Chen’s research interests mainly focus on the mechanics of thin-walled metallic structures, including sheet metal forming, tube hydroforming, constitutive modeling of sheet metal, elastoplastic instability and ductile failure. Dr. Chen has coauthored around 30 papers including 10 papers published in the top journals of Solid Mechanics and/or Manufacturing such as the JMPS, IJSS, IJP and IJMS, applied 3 invention patents, been invited to serve as session chairs in international conferences such as USNC/TAM2022 and IMECE2021, received NSF Travel Award, Max Williams Fellowship, UT Austin Professional Development Award, outstanding reviewer for IJSS and other honors and awards.
