Abstract: Cognitive radio is a promising technology to improve the utilization of wireless spectrum resources. It can solve the spectrum shortage in Wi-Fi networks due to wireless Internet access. Spectrum sensing is the core functionality in cognitive radio networks. In this paper, we analyze the sensing performance and find optimal K in K out of N rule over imperfect reporting channels. Numerical evaluations illustrate that bit error probability over the reporting channel degrades the performance of the Wi-Fi network and that how the optimal sensing time affects the throughput of the Wi-Fi network.
