A novel RSSI-based wireless localization algorithm

Abstract:In this paper, a modified Received Signal Strength Index (RSSI) localization algorithm based on tangent lines of circles is proposed to increase the localization precision. Meanwhile, its computational complexity is comparable with the one of Min-Max algorithm. This algorithm has been validated through an experimental simulation utilizing wireless sensor network with the Zigbee protocol. The proposed algorithm properly solves the problem of inaccuracy in calculation areas and the possibility of no intersection among these areas. Simulation results reveal that the proposed algorithm can achieve significant improvement in average error and maximum error performance over the traditional Min-Max location algorithm. ? 2015 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
