Abstract:Based on multi-product firm’s perspective from trade theory of heterogeneous firms ,this paper de-composed China’s import using China Custom’s micro data in 2000~2006 ,and investigated the impact of tariff reduction on the extensive margin of China’s import using highly disaggregated tariff data .Research results showed that multi-product firms’ extensive margin approximately accounted for 50% of China’s total imports . In the short run ,tariff reduction increased extensive margins through adding importing firm ’s number and product’s variety ,but decreased extensive margins through shrinking importing market .In the long run ,tariff decline promoted extensive margins of China’s import respectively through all the three dimensions of firm , product and market .
