Abstract:All the experiments on the mixed mode fractures in quasi-rock materials under compression-shear loading showed that the initial cracking load of wing crack is related to the angle of flaw, but how it works, many scholars can't obtain consistency. A numerical analysis based on extended finite element method has been carried out, the propagation progress of wind crack has been simulated, the reasons of inconsistency were obtained by the load-displacement curve. The numerical results shows: (1) The initial cracking load of wing crack increase as the increasing of flaw angle, the propagation load of wing cracks with larger flaw angle are larger than that with smaller ones when wing cracks reach a certain length; (2) The displacement is small at the beginning of the propagation of wing crack, so the increment step should be suitable. The research achievements show a good explanation to the contradiction and also have theory instruction function to the relevant experiments in the future. ? 2008 ejge.
