Abstract:A clear understanding of the hydrate pore habits and seepage characteristics of hydrate bearing sediments (HBSs) has great theoretical and practical value for natural gas hydrate (NGH) exploitation. Micro CT allows direct inspection of gas hydrate growth behaviors in pores and detailed pore structure of HBS for use in numerical models. Moreover, in situ analyses of hydrate bearing cores can also be obtained in field trials. In this review, the state-of-the-art applications of micro CT in NGH studies are critically summarized. The limitations in literature are discussed and the prospects and challenges for future study are proposed.
